Due to the changed OLED screen technology we haven’t found a stylus that delivers a good user experience with any of these iPhones. The iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max and later do not officially support any third-party styli. IPad (8th and 9th generation) - 7327 x 7327 IPad Pro 9.7", iPad (6th and 7th generation), iPad mini (5th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation) - 8,192 x 4,096 or 16,384 x 2,048 IPad Pro 12.9", iPad Pro 11", and 10.5" iPad Air (4th generation), iPad mini (6th generation), iPad (10th generation) on iPadOS 15 or later - 16,384 x 4,096 or 8,192 x 8,192 Here are the maximum canvas sizes by device in pixel: For example, on the 12.9" and 11" M1 iPad Pros (updated to iPadOS 15 or later), you can make any canvas provided neither side is longer than 16,384 pixels and the total size of the canvas doesn't exceed 134 megapixels. You can create a canvas of any size and ratio in Procreate as long as it doesn't exceed the width/height limit for your particular device. The iPad (5th Generation), iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 can create canvases up to 8,192 pixels in either direction, and for the iPad Pro models this limit is increased to 16,384 pixels. The other limit is on any single dimension - width or height. For example, the 12.9" and 11" M2 and M1 iPad Pros and the iPad Air 5 can create a canvas up to 134,217,728 pixels total - around 134 megapixels. ![]() The limit on total canvas size can be found by multiplying the two dimensions of any of the below maximum sizes. Then, over in the layer palette, I can tap the layer and reduce its opacity dramatically. There are actually two limits on canvas sizes in Procreate, both imposed by the hardware of the iPad model you're using. With my transform tool, I'm now able to move this new darker layer down and to the left to create the casting of our shadow. Then I'll tap once again and turn off Alpha Lock. Then I'll select my much darker color, tap the layer again, and select Fill Layer. To do that, I'll tap it once and hit Alpha Lock. This newly flattened layer is going to become our drop shadow layer, so I want to fill it in with one solid, darker color. Now I have a flattened version of the E sitting right underneath the layered version of the E. I now want to duplicate this new group and select the lower of the two groups. I'm just swiping right on each layer to select multiple layers at once, then tapping Group up at the top. So I'm starting by grouping all of the elements of this E so far. With our dimension complete, it's now time to make a very dramatic drop shadow. I’m not worrying about being sloppy or getting the texture in areas that aren’t going to be in shadow because I am going to come back with an eraser brush and do some refining in just a minute. You can see that I'm starting with shading the bottom because, again, if the light is coming in from the top, it means that the regions right underneath that dimensional space would have the most shadow (i.e. It’s still in the beta testing phase, but below this transcript, in the resources section, are some great texture brush I suggest for shading and texture! The one I’m using today is a brush of my own making that is coming out very soon. And in my brushes palette, I’m selecting a grain or texture brush. ![]() In my layers palette, I'm making 100% sure I’m on that clipping mask layer. Shadow, by definition, has to be darker, so I’m selecting an even darker pink from my palette. That way, when I draw in the shading, it will only affect the dimension layer below it. Then I’m tapping the new layer once and selecting Clipping Mask. So in my layers palette, I’m making sure I’m still on that bottom dimension layer and I’m adding a new layer above it. I want the light to look like it’s coming in from the top, which means that shadows will be cast downward. Now it's time to add some shading so that it really looks like a light source is hitting this image.
